Dear Families.

This week will be very busy. Especially since we have off Thursday. I hope everyone had a good weekend.

This week we will read the story A Pig in a Wig we will talk about the short i sound. the spelling words this week are

six, pig, lip, mix, pick, fin, fix, big, wig, sit, pin

High Frequency words to know are take, what, up, she.

I look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday night.

In math we are talking about counting forward and backwards on a number chart. Some children are having trouble with the wording. We will continue to talk about it in class but do go over it at home. Thank you

October 11 Field trip -Diary of a Worm play

November 29th - Field Trip Museum of Fine Arts I will need two parents to go on each field trip. the museum of Fine Arts lets many come but you have to pay

Dear Parents

Good Morning. I hope everyone had a great Holiday.

Homework is going home today. The spelling words are the short E words. This week we have included the five High Frequency Words. Your child should know them and will get extra credit for spelling them on the Spelling Test. Grades will be taken on the first 10 words. But Extra Credit will be given for the Bonus Words each week.

Homework is due back this Friday.

Brown Folders will go home today.

I still need five people to give me money for the National Geographic Magazine.

I am going to Pershing Junior High tomorrow for a seminar on Mentoring. I am Mrs. Paschal mentor this year. I will be back Friday.

Dear Parents

Please collect your Box Tops! We collect them all year! I can get a box to put them in.

Friday is our first Spelling and math assessment. At 1:30 we will host our first 4th grade reader buddies. It is always fun when the older kids come to our class.

Our first Scholastic News letter went home today on rules. We will use the magazine for learning IIM fact finding material.

Dear Parents:
We have had a fabulous first week. Thank you so much for the ones who have turned in your forms and the $9. I would like to order the Scholastic and National Geographic very soon.

Homework is going home Monday and Is due back Friday. We will give a Spelling Test Friday on the ten words.

Monday we will start our Reading Street Reading Program. I am looking forward to starting it because it is a great all inclusive program.

I am excited about the response of parents who signed up to read with the children. I will have chairs and books outside the classroom with a list of the children you will read with. This extra practice gives the children such a boost in reading.

We have also received our math Program Envision from the HISD office. We will start with Topic one Monday. This will go home everyday with the children, It is good for you to look at it and see what we are doing each day. Friday we will have a Topic One Test in Envision.

Grades will be posted on Gradespeed.

Tuesday at 8:00am there is a First Grade coffee, I will be talking to you about the first grade curriculum. I hope to see you there.

Please keep bringing in Water for the play ground it is soooooooo!!!!!!! Hot. We will continue to shorten the recess time. Hope you all have a great weekend.

Homework goes home every Monday and is due back on Friday mornings. We will have spelling words, math, Science, Social Studies in each packet. Children should only work about 20 minutes each night. Reading is very important and they should read 20 minutes each day also. oour first homework will go home next Monday.

Recess

It is very hot outside. we are going to start Recess only being 15 minutes. Please bring a water bottle for your child to use on the playground. If anyone has a ball they can bring for the children to play with I would really appreciate it. Please add your child's name on it so it will not get lost. Thank you so much.

Welcome to First Grade!! My name is Barbara Stryker. I have been a first grade teacher at Twain for 11 years. I am so excited to teach your child. First grade is very Challenging and is a huge change from Kindergarten.We have three big concepts in First grade one Reading
two Math and Three Writing.

I would like to ask for parents to sign up to come read each week with the children between 9:00-9:45 Monday through Thursday
